Tonight's the night...

League final tonight over at Dino's - I get to look forward to getting a T-shirt from a beer company who's beer I will probably never drink, along with my booty for getting first place overall for this season. Hopefully it will be better than the $50 gift cert that Stevo got last summer, and more along the lines of the light or mirror that Scott got last fall.

Could very well be the last game at Dino's for at least a month due to year-end at work...then who knows once the weather gets nice if I will want to play again, but that's a worry for another day.

Some non-poker related thoughts for the day:

- Watching the Detroit Tigers play this past week has reminded me of what it means to be a Detroit Lion fan.

- Barack Obama is an empty suit, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It is amazing, however, how relatively unscathed he came out after that whole "God Damn America" tripe from his pastor. Then again, I suppose we can excuse Obama for not being aware that his pastor was a Anti-American-Kill-Whitey racist, since there's very few men who actually pay attention in church, right?

- By the way, I didn't write a long blog last week because I was dodging sniper fire over in Bosnia...it's about time some of you lefties out there realize what a piece-o-shit liar Hillary is.

- I know Geraldine Ferraro was called a racist by some thin-skinned liberals (isn't that redundant?) out there recently, but she's right: If Obama was a white dude with that thin of a resume, there's no chance he'd have a shot at being President. She could have included Shrillary in there as well - but that would be sexist, wouldn't it? :-\

- I am not a big supporter of Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, but when I look around at the list of people who could replace him, I start to think more and more that I hope he straightens his ass out and does some good work for the City of Detroit, because these other guys are just idiots.

- Let's face it, whether you like the guy or not (I happen to think he's a scumbag), there's no denying that he has a certain charisma about him, and he has done a lot to bring more businesses to the city...Cockrel and other jokers just don't have the credibility to do what he can do.

- Memphis wins tonight by 12, just guessin'

congrats on your place.

As for the blind structure, oh well. "You're only going to give them 11 chips?" Oh boy...

I appreciate your comments on my play - as we discussed via text, I never actually got any suited connectors/aces period, much less in position or out of position. In that game, I'll limp with something as weak as 78 suited, because I'm pretty sure I'll never get raised. Aside from that, I had Scott raising before me at inopportune times... and the only way I'm playing against him is by coming over the top with something halfway decent.

As far as your play goes, I'd encourage you to be a shortstack ninja like me (when you are a shortstack that is)... learn to push when you're shorthanded more often, with hands as weak as 22+, any ace, most kings, 78s+... usually from the cutoff or the button. It only has to work 30% of the time to be profitable (allowing for variance of course.)

People see me folding 80% or better of my hands and call me "weak-tight..." but that's usually only in the low to mid-blinds. Aggression pays off more in the mid- to high-blind portions of a SNG, which is why I enjoyed that game so much. I wouldn't recommend the strategy for a cash game.

I do notice that the range of hands you'll play/push with increases as the blinds go up, as most normal players (i.e. about less than 1/2 of us at Dino's) would do.

Then again, no reason to donk away your chips early on in the game...i.e. Sweeney last night (I'd say Scott, but he made no bones that my FH suckout put him on tilt, so we can excuse him), so you can emulate WD-Ron some other night in some $1 SnG or something like that.

Just don't get like Andy and start cursing because you folded your 6-2 to 2 raises, and "would have" flopped 2 pair...god, that's annoying!

I was going over some of those HU hands yesterday in my head, and couldn't figure out why I got kinda tight near the end of the game there...especially since I hadn't played that way most of the way to get there. Oh well, better than a good night at work, I say.

Far as I can tell, though my pushing issues (last night) were limited to HU...when we were down to 7 players, that wasn't a problem looking at an ace or KQ and insta-pushing for blinds and such. There's only a handful of us in the game at Dino's who absolutely hate getting down to 2-3BBs, so we kinda know who's not "afraid to die" so to speak :-)

2-3 BBs? I hate going below 20!!!
